Bharat Electronics: A Key Player in India’s Defence Sector

Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) is a major public sector company in India, operating under the Ministry of Defence. They specialise in creating advanced electronic products and systems for the Army, Navy, and Air Force. BEL has also expanded into areas such as homeland security, smart cities, e-governance, space electronics, energy storage solutions like electric vehicle charging stations, solar power, cyber security, railway and metro systems, airport technology, Electronic Voting Machines, telecom products, night vision devices, medical electronics, and software solutions.

Following the recent India-Pakistan War, the Indian Defence Sector has gained attention, with many local defence companies, including BEL, seeing substantial growth and receiving significant orders from both the Indian government and other countries. BEL has emerged as the second-largest defence company in India, behind Hindustan Aeronautics.

Recent Achievements by Bharat Electronics:

Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has recently secured work orders worth Rs. 585 Crore since their last update on 5th June 2025. These orders include fire control systems for missiles, communication equipment, jammers, and various spares and services.

On June 5, 2025, BEL received orders worth Rs. 2,323 Crore (excluding taxes) from MDL in Mumbai and GRSE in Kolkata. These orders are for supplying base and depot spares for missile systems on Indian naval ships, ensuring that crucial onboard equipment remains operational.

Earlier, on June 1, 2025, BEL announced additional orders totalling Rs. 537 Crores since their last update on 16 May 2025. These include communication equipment, advanced communication systems for ships, jammers, software, simulator upgrades, spares, test rigs, and support services.

On April 9, 2025, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a leading Defence Public Sector Undertaking, signed a contract with the Ministry of Defence worth ₹2,210 Crores (excluding taxes) to supply an Electronic Warfare Suite for the Mi-17 V5 Helicopters of the Indian Air Force. These systems are designed and developed in India by CASDIC, DRDO, and manufactured by BEL.

On April 2, 2025, BEL also signed a contract with the Indian Air Force for maintenance services for the Akash Missile System, valued at ₹593.22 Crores (excluding taxes).

Earlier, on March 13, 2025, BEL received an order worth ₹2,463 Crores from the Indian Air Force for Ashwini Radars, which includes supplies and services.

On February 20, 2025, BEL signed a contract worth ₹1,034 Crores (excluding taxes) with the Ministry of Defence to provide Software Defined Radios (SDR) and Data Communication Terminals (DCT) for the Indian Coast Guard.

In January 2025, BEL secured a ₹561 Crore order for network upgrades that include communication equipment, electro-optics, and satellite communication enhancements.

As of April 1, 2025, BEL’s overall order book is about ₹71,650 Crores, which includes an export order worth $359 million. The company employs 8,832 individuals.
